PROVIDENCE – Lincoln junior Kyle Moison made a statement to the rest of the state Saturday at the East Coast Invitational.

Not only did the Lion dominate the shot put again with a title-winning toss of 58 feet, but he also upended reigning state champion Jacob Furland of Classical in the weight throw. Moison tossed the weight 693.25 to down Furland, who’s best throw was 66-10. Cumberland’s Cole Hooper finished fifth with a throw of 63-8.50.

Moison wasn’t the only Blackstone Valley athlete to leave Providence with a title because Mount St. Charles sophomore Ryan Slaney won the two-mile run in a time of 10 minutes, 3.65 seconds to defeat Algonquin Regional’s (Mass.) Jonathan Symonds by 2.83 seconds. Cumberland’s Dan Collard was fourth (10:12.47) and freshman teammate Henry Dennen was sixth (10:25.33).

Nick Iarussi was third in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2, while senior sprinter Hezekiah Adeye finished fourth in the 400-meter run in a time of 51.78. Adeyeye finished .02 seconds out of third place, while Algonquin’s Matt Madamba of Algonquin won the title in 51.90.

Senior Emmanuel Gomes was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.10.

Novan Alissiano Folco finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.86. The event was claimed by Hillhouse (New Haven, Conn.) sprinter Ayesha Nelson in a time of 8.62. Marissa Henley was fourth in the hammer throw with a top toss of 50 feet.

Also in the hammer throw, Lincoln junior Jackie Andrews finished sixth with a throw of 49-0.50.

Cumberland’s Owen Molis finished third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:02.17. North Kingstown’s Jack Perreault won the event in 1:58.91.

Shea sprinter Jalen Smith and Mount freshman Anna Giacobbe didn’t place, but ran well. Smith finished ninth in the 55-meter dash. He was .03 seconds away from competing in the final.

Giacobbe broke her own freshman school record in the 200-meter dash. Her team of 27.59 was good enough for ninth place and she was the second Rhode Islander to cross the line.
