1964 Coach Jimmy Donaldson’s Goff quintet registered their

fourth and fifth victories this week in the Northern Division of the R. I. Junior High Basketball League. Goff routed the Cumberland freshmen 78-47 with big Art Mitsmenn torching the twines for 29 points, Joe Mellen netted 17 and Bruce Chadwick added 13, while Paul Alves had 24 points in a losing effort. Mitsmenn once again took high-scoring laurels with 20 points as Goff trimmed Jenks 54-29.

1984 Peter Desmarais’s goal with 3:52 left in regulation tied

the game, but powerful Woonsocket rebounded with a back-breaker of a goal at 9:43 by Mike Landry who with 40 seconds left added an empty-net tally to complete his hat trick as the Met B Division leading Villa Novans edged Lincoln 6-4. “We were down 4-1 to the top club, we came back to tie – and we should have gone in right over them,” said Lion coach John Rekos. “Instead we backed down. We’ve got an experienced team, so it comes down to the fact we need a stronger commitment from everybody and more concentration,” added Rekos.
