1958 Coach Omer Landry’s high flying Central Falls quintet

ran their unbeaten streak to 15 by whipping neighborhood rival Sacred Heart Academy 79-45 before a standing room crowd in the Saint Raphael Academy gym in Class B action. Len Deffew paced the Bluejackets with a game-high 22 points, Jim Tercyak caged 18 points and snared 18 rebounds, Ed Arage notched 15 points and sophomore Joe Pinto celebrated his 16th birthday with 12 points. Dick Frechette paced the Beavers with 10 points, while Claude Gladu was limited to eight on only 2 of 14 field goals.

1968 Ed Pontbriant and Mark Hodgkins sparked a 23-point

fourth quarter blitz as Lincoln overcame a 48-45 deficit to go on to defeat Pawtucket West 69-60 in Class B Eastern Division play. Long John Stafford, a 6-foot-4 junior given a rare starting assignment from Lion coach Andy Boyle, responded with 25 points and a good job off the boards, while Hodgkins finished with 15. Rick Dressler, a reserve, paced the undermanned Rangers with 14 points, Mike Calabro caged 13, Ted McDonald 12 and Bob Ridings 10.

1978 When Cumberland’s Kristy Swiech netted the game’s

final two points off a rebound with seven seconds remaining on the clock, not only was it Swiech’s fourth field goal inside two minutes, but it also gave the Clippers a spine-tingling, come-from-behind 57-55 win over Bishop Keough in a Suburban Division encounter. Swiech canned 17 points, Linda Moreau connected for 12 and Sandy Perry had 11 as the Clippers finished their league campaign with a 9-3 mark, good for third place. Kathy Flynn torched the twines for a game-high 28 points and Gail Henderson drained 15 as the Koala’s dropped to 3-5 with the loss.
