Lions earn road win over Mt. Hope

BRISTOL — It wasn’t pretty, but the Lincoln girls basketball team is going into the playoffs having won its last three road game. Senior guard Kate Swanson scored a game-high 14 points and junior wing Yaritza Lara added 12 points in the Lions’ 34-27 Division III victory over Mt. Hope Wednesday night.

Lincoln (11-6 Division III) doesn’t know what seed it will be, but coach Lindsay Lacey knows her squad will be playing a home playoff game tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

The Lions, who led 18-12 at halftime, also received seven points from Dalia Suslovich and a bucket from Lilye Lasko.

SCITUATE – It wasn’t a victory, but the Cumberland girls basketball team knows it can play with anyone in Division II headed into Friday night’s playoff opener.

The Clippers led first-place Scituate by a point with five minutes to go after a hoop from Juliette Vemmer, but the Spartans answered thanks to a team-high 11 points from Madison Medberry to secure a 47-41 home victory Wednesday night.

“It was a really good game,” Cumberland coach George Coderre said. “We had a bunch of good, open looks early in the game that if we had any kind of confidence shooting the ball we could’ve had a big lead.”

Cumberland (8-9 Division II) received a game-high 17 points from sophomore wing Madison Zancan. Senior guard Casey Farrell added eight points, while Abby LaRose and Juliette Vemmer chipped in with six.

The Clippers built an 8-2 advantage to start the first half, but Leah Bessette (10 points), Emma LaPlante and Taylor Parker helped the Spartans make nine free throws in the first half to take a 26-20 advantage at halftime.

Led by Zancan, the Clippers went on a 13-6 run to start the second half to take a onepoint lead with five minutes to go on Vemmer’s hoop.

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The St. Raphael girls basketball team enters the playoffs with an eight-game winning steak after sophomore forward Amaya Dowdy scored a game-high 15 points and Kaylee Mulligan added 10 in a 50-39 Division I road victory over North Kingstown Wednesday night.
