1968 Top scoring honors went to Paul Brule with 23 points, but

it was not enough as St. Mathieu’s bowed 50-43 as St. Mary’s, led by Ed Harrop’s 19 points, advanced to the semifinals in the Grammar Division playoffs of the Blackstone Valley CYO Basketball League. In other quarterfin­al action, Dave Adam netted 18 points and Jerry Monastesse 14 as Holy Trinity defeated St. Patrick’s 47-40. St Pat’s Bob Lejeune’s captured game-high laurels with 22 points.

1988 Junior point guard Wendy Jacques flipped in 13 of her

game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter as Shea broke open a close game and defeated Saint Raphael Academy 53-44 to clinch a Class B-North playoff berth in the process. “Wendy has played well all season, but this was definitely her best game of the year,” stated Raider coach John Kazarian. Chris Desrochers led a determined SRA effort with 19 points.

1998 Shawn Nassaney, a former harrier at Saint Raphael Acad

emy and now a member of the Bryant College men’s indoor track and field squad, has qualified for the New England Indoor Championsh­ips slated for the Boston University Armory this weekend. Nassaney, a senior from Pawtucket, will compete in the mile run with a field consisting of the best Division 1 and 2 collegiate athletes in the region. He is one of six members of the Bulldogs’ team who have attained qualifying standards.
