Student art goes on March display at Cumberland Public Library
CUMBERLAND – Students from the B.F. Norton and Garvin Memorial elementary schools in Cumberland will be sharing their artwork in the Cumberland Public Library’s Hayden Art Gallery during the month of March. The exhibit will be accessible whenever the library is open.
Tara Villanova and Kerri Marshall are visual arts educators in the town of Cumberland. For the month of March they are representing their schools, Bernard F. Norton and Garvin Memorial, in the Hayden Gallery. The two have had a lifelong love of art and are excited to share the work of their students in the community.
They have chosen 30 artworks created by their students in grades K through 5 to represent a diverse range of subject matter and materials. Artworks were chosen based on excellent craftsmanship and some by subject matter that pertained to English Language Arts and literacy to coincide with the Cumberland Library setting. Inside the Hayden Gallery you will find a range of abstract and realistic artworks, self-portraits, landscapes, and more in a variety of art materials.
The Library is hosting the exhibit as part of Youth Art Month, which was started by the Arts & Creative Materials Institute in 1961 to emphasize the value in young people participating in visual art education.
