BLACKSTONE VALLEY MEMORIES August 13

- — By BILL MULHOLLAND

1956 Tim Cartwright spun a three-hitter and struck out 14

as the Teardrops shaded Noiseaux’ Boys 4-3 in a Pawtucket Boys’ Club-Recreation Department Midget League tilt. The Teardrops won it in the seventh inning with two runs on a triple by Joe DaCruz, a double by Ed Addison and another triple by Ron Benjamin, while Don Hart and Phil Calabro belted round-trippers for the Boys. In Pee Wee action, Frank Cooney slammed a homer, George Lozy ripped a triple and Bryan Egan’s sharp single brought home Lozy with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Conant Street nine edged Crossman Street 3-2.

1966 Pawtucket All-Star manager Al (Buck) Pfefferle has

given the nod to hard-throwing southpaw Mike Thomsen as the state champs prepare to meet the Maine champions in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Little League Tournament in Westerly. Al Menard will handle the catching chores, with Steve Reynolds at first, Steve Pertuso at second, Jim Garber at third, Al Lantagne at shortstop, Bobby Girouard in left, Ed Harrop in center and Pfefferle is toying with the idea of replacing Marty Guatieri with Jeff Boghossian in right field.

1976 Left-hander Tom Hole held the Blackstone Valley

13-year-olds to three hits and singled home what turned out to be the winning run as the Middletown Islanders nipped the local youngsters 3-2 to advance to the New England Regional Tournament of the Babe Ruth League to be played at McCoy Stadium. Tom Chartier took the loss allowing six hits, striking out 10 and walking two. Steve Lachance’s RBI sacrifice fly and pinch-hitter Mike LeBlanc’s run-scoring walk produced the runs for B.V.
