1966 Singles by Paul Laverdier, Greg Monteiro and Mike
Aragao produced the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Adam’s Café, the dark horse, overcame a 3-0 deficit and advanced to the finals of the Pawtucket Softball League’s double-elimination playoffs by edging Cliff House 4-3. Jim Sylvester, Windy Brouillette and Bob LaFlamme laced key hits for Adam’s, while Cliff House’s Hank Munroe was the tilt’s top hitter going 3-for-3. In other action, a three-run homer by Ed Pitochelli, a bases-loaded triple by Jack Simpson and three hits by Pete Monteiro led Giusti’s to a 10-5 romp over Gus’ Grille.
1986 Two Pawtucket golfers saw their hole-in-one dreams
fulfilled within 30 minutes of each other in Stone-ELea National League action. Hank Richotte aced the 165-yard 15th hole with a four-iron during league competition. The shot was witnessed by Ed Heaney, Burt Bouley and Joel Cabral. Paul Graveline, playing two groups behind Richotte, then aced the same 15th hole with a five-iron. It was the first hole-in-one in Graveline’s lengthy career on the links. Ted Soukas, Joe McCra and Oscar Houde witnessed his ace.
1996 For Ed Kenney and Paul Bucklin, it was close but no ci
gar at the U. S. Singles Lawn Bowling Championships Eastern Regional Tournament in Slater Park. Kenney placed second and Bucklin was third as they fell short of defeating champion Duncan Farrell of Essex, N. J. In the Slater Park club’s singles tourney, Bucklin captured the title, while Fred Howarth, Al Letourneau and Sonne Bucklin finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
