Final Summer Classic Car Cruise tonight
WOONSOCKET — The city will hold its final Summer Classic Car Cruise event on Monday, offering the public a family-friendly event at Market Square paired with opportunities to view an array of museum quality vehicles and even donate unwanted bras to help the Athena’s Cup charitable entity secure the Guinness World Record for ‘Longest Bra Chain’ this fall.
“As the City readies to host its fourth and final Summer Classic Car Cruise event offering food trucks, an oldies DJ, a wide variety of children’s activities and many stunning classic cars, Athena’s Cup is nearing the last lap of this highly anticipated race,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “Let’s put the pedal to the metal during the upcoming Car Cruise event and get Woonsocket’s own Jennifer Jolicoeur the remaining number of the almost 5,000 bras she needs for Athena’s Cup to successfully bring the Guinness World Record home from Australia.”
Athena’s Cup collected 109 bra donations during the Cruise event the City held on Aug. 26 and received an equal number of post-event donations were hand-delivered to its Winter Street headquarters.
Jolicoeur will again accept bra donations while stationed adjacent to the classic 1958 silver Cadillac Coupe that her “Pepere” regularly drove before he had decided to retire it from the road.
“This exciting bid for the Guinness World Record has brought Woonsocket it’s very own Indianapolis 500 race of sorts,” said Mayor Baldelli-Hunt.
The City of Woonsocket Summer Classic Car Cruise event is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. until dark. In case of rain, the free event will be held the following Monday. Each of the city’s municipal lots offer free parking.
