1970 Ray Massey rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown in

just 10 carries to pace Tolman to a hard-earned 13-6 triumph over Cranston East in a game played in near-freezing temperatures with heavy winds and snow flurries. In the first quarter, carries by Massey, QB Ernie Hutton and Al Noddings advanced the ball to the one-yard line and Noddings cracked in for the TD with Bill Britt kicking the conversion. After a fumble recovery by Jim Histen in the third period, Massey took off on a 35-yard scoring jaunt for a 13-6 advantage.

Sweeney notched his 10th consecutive City of Pawtucket X-C championship and SRA’s overall 14th straight as the Saints garnered 31 points, while Tolman mustered 42 and Shea 47. Tiger coach Ed Warnock’s No. 1 harrier, Mark Curzake, captured the individual crown running away from the field in 14:49 over the 2.8-mile Slater Park course. SRA’s Tom Montalbano finished second, staving off Raider coach Kevin Mulligan’s Mike Crawley by two strides.

for 32 yards, ran for a touchdown, snared a PAT toss and kicked a 28-yard field goal to spark Shea to a 23-8 win over Warren and snap a four-game losing streak in Class C-One action. QB Dino Georgeopoulous scampered four yards, Stratos sprinted 39 yards and Flavio Lubrano plowed over from five yards out for the Raiders’ TDs. A Shea defense that held the Redskins without a first down the entire first half was anchored by Heath Tiberio and Greg Cooper.
