Cumberland to host movie series

CUMBERLAND — Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the Cumberland Public Library (1464 Diamond Hill Road) while watching a free film on the big screen. Each week, you’re invited to join for a Monday Matinee, which will start at 1 p.m. There will be a new theme for the movie series each month, and the theme for November will be Family Reunion, which will focus on stories of families coming back together. Here is our list of the movies that will be included in the series:

• November 4: This is Where I Leave You [R, 2014, 1

hour and 43 minutes] – When their father passes away, four grown siblings are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens.

• November 18: Parenthood [PG-13, 1989, 2 hour and 4

minutes] – The Bukmans are a Midwestern family all dealing with their lives, estranged relatives, raising children, pressure of the job, and learning to be a good parent and spouse.

• November 25: The Family Stone [PG-13, 2005, 1 hour

and 43 minutes] – An uptight, conservati­ve businesswo­man accompanie­s her boyfriend to his eccentric and outgoing family’s annual Christmas celebratio­n and finds that she is a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life.

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Public Library is teaming up with the Cumberland/Lincoln Lions Club to provide monthly presentati­ons on issues that affect our community. Each session will be connected to one of five Global Causes on which Lions Club Internatio­nal Focus. Those causes include vision, diabetes, hunger, the environmen­t and childhood cancer.

On Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m., a panel of residents, staff and managers from the Rogers Home from Sober Living will be speaking at the Library about the mission of the sober house as well as some of the experience­s of those who have and are participat­ing in the program there. Please join for this very interestin­g and informativ­e presentati­on.
