St. Aidan Senior Club to meet
CUMBERLAND — The St. Aidan Senior Club will meet at St. Aidan Parish Center, 1460 Diamond Hill Road on Friday, Feb. 7.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m.; In the event of snow, and there is no school in Cumberland, the meeting will be canceled as well. There will be coffee and muffins at no charge to members and the activity will be a speaker on fraud and elderly abuse from the Cumberland Police Dept., Sargent David Payson. New members are always welcome.
VNA of Care New England seeks volunteers
The VNA of Care New England is looking for volunteers for its hospice program. Volunteers offer companionship to patients in their homes and in skilled facilities. Lecture series continues today
The first presentation of the 1916 Committee for 2020 is entitled, “The Hunger, The Voyage and The Welcome.”
Mavis McGetrick, in a multi media format, explores the conditions that forced over one million people to emigrate from Ireland to America. Famine in the late 1840’s killed thousands and many of those who left experienced deplorable conditions on the so called “coffin ships”. Mavis will also discuss the economic and social conditions that awaited them in the U.S. The lecture begins at 7:30 on Friday, Jan. 24. The venue is the RI Irish Ceilide Club, 50 America St., Cranston.
Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The Leon Mathieu Senior Center will be hosting a Virtual Dementia Tour on Friday, Jan. 24 at 12:30 p.m. Open yourself to experiencing the world around you in a completely different way and gain a clear perspective into the daily lives of those with dementia.
The Virtual Dementia Tour sensitivity training program enables participants to gain a greater understanding of dementia and shift their thinking from fear to action. PAWTUCKET — The BoneBuilders of RI class at Leon Mathieu Senior Center will be led by Susan Bayley, a Master Trainer and student of Diane Caruso. Susan has been leading BoneBuilder classes since 2013. A student of yoga for more than 20 years, she has been leading yoga classes since 2008. Classes will be every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This program is open to Senior Members 55 and older. PAWTUCKET — The Leon Mathieu Senior Center will be hosting a chronic pain self-management program.
This six week program is designed to give you the tools needed to manage chronic pain, which can be caused by a wide variety of conditions. Participants will learn about managing symptoms and medications, communicating with family and doctors, eating well and exercising safely, setting goals to improve health and lifestyle.
These workshops will take place every Monday through Feb. 24 (with exception to Jan. 20 and Feb. 17) from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. Call the Senior Center at 401-728-7582.
