1955 Big Dick Ponton, Sacred Heart Academy’s 6-foot-6

center, dominated the boards and pitched in a gamehigh 38 points, high for the season here in the Blackstone Valley, as the Beavers upset arch-rival Central Falls 72-68 in a nip-and-tuck Class B affair. Aiding Ponton in the scoring department were Ray Brochu and Ray Thibeault with 15 and 14 points, respective­ly. The Bluejacket­s, which despite the defeat retained their lead in the Class B standings, were led by Bob Wallace and Joe Nield with 20 points apiece, Al DeAndrade netted 15 and Frank Mitchell added 11.

1965 The Thibodeau boys, Bob, Paul and John, combined for 54 points in St. Cecilia’s 86-41 romp over Notre Dame in Blackstone Valley CYO Intermedia­te Basketball League action. In other games, Walt Wall hooped 23 points as St. Joseph’s edged St. Jean’s 50-49, while Al Loiselle had 13 points in a losing cause. St. Mary’s defeated St. Teresa’s 60-50 paced by Al Correia’s 17 points, but top honors went to Bob Coppolino for the losers with 25 points.

1975 Mike Rankowitz hit on four straight bombs from the outside late in the third quarter to get Tolman on the way to a 73-64 win over a stubborn Woonsocket five. Rankowitz finished with 21 points, Doug Clary caged 20, Mike Paine netted 12 and Joe Dragon added 11 for the Tigers who have not lost in 11 league games and can clinch the division championsh­ip with a win in any of their remaining three games. Tolman was helped throughout by a superiorit­y off the boards with Clary, Dragon and Bob Senn doing most of the work.
