Twin River calls off large events

LINCOLN - In the aftermath of Gov. Gina M. Raimondo's declaratio­n that people avoid attending or organizing events with more than people amid concerns about the spread of coronaviru­s, win 5iver (vent Center and win 5iver Casino otel on hursday announced the postponeme­nt of all scheduled concerts and public events at the casino through March.

The announceme­nt from Craig Sculos, 9ice resident and eneral Manager at win 5iver Casino otel, came mere hours before the scheduled start of hursday night s C(S ive Championsh­ip Bo ing card and a day before tonight s slated performanc­e by rock and blues band Blood, Sweat ears.

Also affected by the cancellati­ons through March includes singing comedy act inh 9uong 9an, scheduled for Sunday night the fourth-annual ew (ngland Beer, ine and )ood )estival,

which was slated for 6aturday, March 1 the March performanc­e of M- Live, the nation’s top Michael -ackson tribute show and the March March Mania lackMack Tournament.

“:e are actively engaged in rescheduli­ng these events for later in the year so we ask ticket holders to be patient and stay tuned for an update on the reschedule­d date of the event for which they hold a ticket,” 6culos said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. “:e will continue to monitor the situation very closely and to that end, will provide continuous updates on any impact to events scheduled beyond this month.”

“6afety of our employees and guests is of the utmost importance to us,” 6culos continued. “For that reason, we have implemente­d an aggressive, educationa­l ‘Aware and Active 3rogram’ at all of our properties. The program reinforces the importance of personal hygiene, remaining at home when feeling ill and safe travel practices, among other recommenda­tions.”

According to Twin 5iver officials, highlights of the ‘Aware and Active 3rogram’ include promoting personal hygiene and etiquette for staff and the general public with signage located in all areas of the building adding more hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the property creating a designated “clean team” with specific protocol for slot machines, common dining areas, railings, elevator buttons, and entrances ensuring that hand gels and wipes are available and encouragin­g employees to remain home if experienci­ng flu-like symptoms.

The Met, a concert venue with a capacity of about 5 people inside the ope Artiste 9illage building on Main 6treet in 3awtucket, posted to ,nstagram on Thursday afternoon that all of the shows are on “for now.”

“:e are monitoring the virus situation daily,” the post read. “For now all of the Met shows are on. :e have doubled down on our cleaning and disinfecti­ng. ,f you have tickets to a show and don’t feel well or don’t want to come, we will arrange for a ticket exchange or refund. :e will continue to monitor the situation daily and if something changes, we will post notices and contact ticket holders via email through our ticket agency. 6tay safe.”

As of Thursday afternoon, Farm Fresh 5hode ,sland’s :inter Market at ope Artiste 9illage was still ongoing, but as an “essential grocery shopping access point, not a social gathering.”

The :inter Market routinely draws several hundred attendees and nearly local farmers to the cramped quarters of the ope Artiste 9illage’s halls to shop for items ranging from produce, fish, and meat to baked goods and prepared foods.

“The Farm Fresh :inter Market in 3awtucket will stay open this 6aturday,” a statement on the Farm Fresh website read. “ owever, in light of the overnor’s recommenda­tion about large events, we are treating the market as an essential grocery shopping access point, not a social gathering. There will be no musicians, balloon lady, community partners, etc. this week.”

“3lease shop and go,” the statement continued.

3repared food vendors and food trucks will be offering their products in to-go containers only in an effort to “minimize congregati­on at the market” and there will be no sampling food, the statement noted.
