1956 Coach Barney Garrity’s Saint Raphael Academy nine

notched its 11th victory in 13 starts rallying for seven runs in the sixth frame for an 8-1 defeat of De La Salle in a contest shortened to six innings by rain at McCoy Stadium. Speedballi­ng senior Jackie Jordan, who has whiffed 110 batters in 74 innings, was credited with his seventh win in eight decisions hurling a two-hitter, fanning six and walking two. Bobby Perreault and Ray Ferns led the Saints at the plate, each cracking two hits in three trips.

1966 Jim Richards drove in the winning run with a twoout single in the sixth inning as Burrillvil­le avoided what would have been the season’s biggest upset edging Central Falls 3-2 in a Northern Division tilt at Harrisvill­e. Brian Martin, who relieved ace Ray Doherty in the fourth, allowed one hit, no runs or walks and fanned four in three innings of work for the win, while tough-luck loser Dale Clarke spun a four-hitter, whiffed four and issued three free passes. Jim Murphy chipped in with an RBI for the defending state champion Broncos, and Steve Paparo collected two of the Warriors’ six hits.

1976 Joe Murray hurled a one-hitter, struck out 17 and

walked 10 as Kelley’s scored an 8-1 win over Shaw’s Market in a Blackstone Valley Babe Ruth League game at Max Read Field. Bob Percival rapped three hits, Gerry Pouliot cracked two singles and Bob Pimental a double in leading Kelley’s at the plate, while Rich Heroux singled with one out in the seventh inning for the lone hit off Murray. In other play, Dave Paquin, Chris Briden and Steve LaChance paced Murdock Webbing in the hit department for a 12-4 victory over Haxton’s Cougars.
