1954 Ralph (Hop) Harrington of Pawtucket has a sizeable lead with 171 points in the Lonsdale Speedway sportsman stock car division standings according to figures by the sanctioning United Stock Car Racing Club. Wally Silva, who holds down second place, picked up 14 points through his victory last Sunday and now has a season’s total of 157. Red Bolduc of Pawtucket is in third place with 138, followed by Dave Humphrey (116), Hank Stevens (104), Eddie Hoyle (89) and Pawtucket’s Fred Luchesi with 82 points.
1964 Gary O’Brien spun a five-hitter spiced with 12 strikeouts as Tom’s Shamrocks defeated the Minor League All-Stars of the Darlington American Little League 6-3. Den Fontaine laced a triple and a single driving in three runs and Paul Emond and Paul Fontaine chipped in with RBI singles for Tom’s. Dick Tierney, Wes Shepard, Bill Driscoll, Bill Roberts and Chang Tao contributed key hits for the All-Stars, while losing pitcher Dan Hodnett was touched for nine hits, three walks and fanned nine.
1974 Joe Pouliot spun a two-hitter and knocked out three
hits himself, two of them doubles, to lead the Phillies to a 7-0 whitewash over the Dodgers in a Pawtucket Boys’ Club-Pawtucket Recreation Department Bantam Division tilt. Dan Barata added a home run for the Phillies, while Barry Lama was best for the Dodgers. In the Midget Division, Ray Dalton, Gary Dalton, John Wilson, Paul Lagasse, Scott Boudreau and Dave Moreau all had key hits as the Lawbreakers coasted to a 9-4 victory over the Royals.
