- — By BILL MULHOLLAND

1954 Winning pitcher Ed Petit helped his own cause

with a two-run homer as Hassenfeld wound up its league schedule in convincing fashion by trouncing Narragansett Wire 12-1 to capture the Industrial Softball League title with a 14-5 record. In other action, Lou Rodriguez’ bases-loaded circuit wallop followed by Ed Paquette’s solo dinger in the first inning propelled GlasKraft to a 17-3 demolition of Newman-Crosby. John Potter and Moe Baris provided the key hits as Apex Tire held off a late rally by Collyer Wire to cop a 6-5 verdict. 1964 1964 Bill McGrath allowed one hit, a second-in

ning single to John Reilly, and fanned 13 as the PBC All-Stars upset the Johnny Rebs 5-1 in a Pawtucket Boys’ Club-Pawtucket Recreation Department Pee Wee B Baseball League tilt. George Barber hammered a solo homer in the third inning and George McDermott belted a two-run clout in the fifth for the All-Stars, who had five hits off Reilly. In Midget League action, Joe Lesowski, who had a no-hitter going until Jack Williams singled in the seventh inning, fired a two-hitter and whiffed 18 as the Braves whipped the Colts 9-1. 1974 Steve DellaTorre, who missed the last five games

due to injuries suffered in an auto accident, came back with a perfect three-for-three day at the plate including a two-run double in a five-run sixth inning outburst as Armistice Post captured their first state playoff win ever edging Newport Post 6-4 in an American Legion state tournament tilt. Steve Galuska added a two-run, two-bagger and Dave Flanagan an RBI single in the fateful sixth. DellaTorre also turned in the defensive play of the game in the bottom of the ninth with two down and runners on first and third as the second baseman dove for a hard grounder up the middle and tossed to shortstop Galuska for the final out of the game.
