1964 Tony Chantri scattered four hits and Joe Agresti

drilled two hits to pace the Libby Slocum Club to a 3-0 win over the Palace Club in the opening round of the Pawtucket Open Softball Tournament at McCoy Stadium. In other action, Bill Robinson tossed a three-hitter, rapped two hits and scored a run, Ray Conroy stroked a single and homer and Dave O’Donnell chipped in with a pair of hits as Bridge Package blanked Kappa Delta Phi 4-0. Jim Bartlett clouted two round-trippers, one a three-run tater, and Art Elmasian and Howie Levine also clubbed dingers as Carson’s Restaurant whitewashe­d Bancroft Racket 13-0.

1984 Chris Petit blanked Stephanie Kline 6-0 in singles

and teamed with Emily Blablocky to defeat Kline and Rayan MacFarlane 6-2 in 10-and-under girls’ doubles in the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Youth Tennis Tournament. In the 11-12 girls, Celeste Petit took the singles (6-2) and the doubles with Nadine Ericson (6-0), while Diane Petit beat Danielle Petit 6-2 and then joined her sister to capture the 13-15 doubles, 6-1. In the boys’ 10-and-under, Brendon Blablocky was victorious in singles, 6-0, but lost to Roland Piedeux and Jeremy Lapierre, 6-0, in doubles, Paul Balay was the singles winner, 6-4, but lost to Jamie MacFarlane and Brendon Blablocky, 6-2, in 11-12 doubles, and finally Matt Santaniell­o was the 13-15 age group singles champ, 7-6.

1994 Tara Lambert of Pawtucket, a freshman third baseman, helped the Salve Regina University softball team to its best season ever with a 21-4 record. Lambert, also a standout on the women’s tennis team, contribute­d three RBI and three runs to pace Salve to its second straight Commonweal­th Coast Conference title. Last autumn, Lambert – a former All-State selection in tennis and softball at Shea – was a key player as the Newporters captured a fifth straight league tennis crown.
