1960 Tolman’s veteran football team defeated intra-city

rival Pawtucket West 13-7 in a scrimmage featuring long runs and spectacula­r passing in the annual Injury Fund benefit program before 9,000 fans at Cranston Stadium. The Tigers’ two touchdowns came on jaunts of 38 yards by Dennis Lucier and 27 yards by Ed (Sugar) Addison, while the Rangers’ lone TD was set up by Kevin Shackett’s 67-yard scamper to the Tolman five. Shackett was overhauled at the five on a fine tackle by Al Malo, the former Pawtucket Vocational star, who made up about seven yards in nailing Shackett. Shackett scored on a three-yard burst two plays later.

1970 John LaRose, the 18-year-old lefthander from Cum

berland, made his second start for the Pawtucket Red Sox and set the Manchester Yankees down on just three hits as the PawSox posted an 8-0 victory in a Class AA Eastern League game that closed out the season for both clubs. LaRose now has hurled a total of 18 innings in the league and has not yielded a run while allowing only seven hits. LaRose fanned three, walked three and all three hits by Manchester were singles.

1980 Rookie coach Doris Horridge notched her first win

as the Shea girls’ tennis team evened their B-North Division mark at 1-1 with a powerful 6-1 victory over Bishop Keough. The Raiders swept singles play behind Laurie Brill (6-1, 6-1), Nancy Miller (7-5, 6-1), Donna Girard (6-0, 6-0) and Christina Doran (6-1, 6-3), while No. 2 Dawn Jesuino-Becky Caughmann (6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (5-1) and No. 3 Dawn Campopiano-Karen Guttin (6-2, 6-4) doubles tandems were victorious for Shea. The Koalas’ sister act of Nancy and Patty Toppazzini tallied BK’s lone point 6-0, 6-7, 6-3 in first doubles.
