McKee gives Milk Fund a boost

WOONSOC.ET – The Milk Fund is growing thanks to its major fundraiser this year, the WOON Milk Fund Radio Auction, but not without a few adjustments due to the continuing pandemic.

WOON Radio owner Dave Richards made changes to the station’s studios at Park Avenue and .ennedy Street such as a Plexiglas screen at the reception desk to help keep people safe, and another social distancing update was also apparent during the Friday afternoon Auction broadcast.

The sponsor and guest host, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mc.ee joined the fundraiser from the family room of his home in Cumberland with a Christmas tree in the background via a digital meeting connection.

As Richards, co-host with Romeo Berthiaume, started the auction with Milk Fund Chair Lisa Carcifero in studio to help out, Mc.ee, a former Cumberland mayor, appeared on a monitor set-up next to Richards’ control panel.

It was a bit of high tech that allowed Mc.ee to chat with the auctioneers and occasionally ring a sleigh bell as the Milk Fund Auction continued.

He even put in plugs for some of the items up for bid and tendered his own bids on a couple he was willing to buy for the cause.

Best of all, he commended everyone for helping a worthy local charity.

“Thank you so much for doing this for the Milk Fund,” Mc.ee told the Auction’s hosts and its participants.

Carcifero was also appreciative of the ongoing fundraising effort and thank the show’s participants for “bidding high and bidding often. I think we will have enough to help those in need out there,” she said.

The auction crew managed spirited bidding on a wide range of donated items, from toys and decorations to winter products gift cards, before the sell off began just after 5 p.m.
