1951 Pictured are the Bow Ties that captured the Jenks
Junior High girls’ volleyball title defeating the Silver Streaks 34-11 in the championship playoff. The team members include Carol Dupre, Lillian Hanna, Dorothy Rigley, Sandra Yeghian, Helen Madfounian, Mary McIntyre, Rosalie Vanti, Barbara Bajik, Marion Cain, Muriel Gilbane and Helen Golish. The Bow Ties, captained by Lillian Hanna, completed their Ninth Grade schedule with a record of six wins and two defeats.
1961 Cumberland rookie coach Joe Dragon made a
sparkling debut as his Clippers pulled away in the second half for a 54-48 win over Central in an injury fund doubleheader. Slim sharpshooter Mike Aragao, taking up where he left off last year as the leading scorer in the Blackstone Valley, pumped home a game-high 21 points while Walt Dusza contributed 11 points and a strong floor game for the locals. Ron Clement, Newman Carr and Joe Marshall combined for 22 points in supporting roles.
1971 Bill Britt swished 21 points on seven field goals
and seven free throws to pace the Tolman hoopsters to a 62-50 non-league win over Lincoln who were led by Roy Coulombe’s 22 points. In other exhibition tilts, Don Kinder and Dan Mooney combined for 37 points as Pawtucket West humbled Saint Raphael Academy 74-28. Sharpshooter Joey Hassett displayed his outside shooting ability draining 31 points to lead highly-regarded La Salle Academy to an 83-61 victory over Cumberland. Kevin Coleman was high-man for the Clippers with 22 points.
