State Police arrest nine for impaired driving on New Year’s Eve

SCITUATE – The Rhode Island State Police announced the arrest of nine motorists for impaired driving during New Year’s Eve patrols.

“Last night was a busy one for our Troopers and they arrested nine people for suspected impaired driving,” said Colonel James M. Manni, superinten­dent of the Rhode Island State Police. “For every impaired driver our Troopers take off the road, a potential tragedy is averted, but we need motorists to make better choices. Drinking or using drugs and driving is always a bad decision.”

The following motorists were arrested Thursday night or Friday morning:

At 8:45 p.m., Anthony Paiz Gonzalez, age 19, of 553 Fairmount Street, Woonsocket, Rhode Island was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (blood results pending). This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 37 in Cranston.

At 9:00 PM, Khevin Kheav, age 36, of 54 Emory Street, 3rd floor, Attleboro, Massachuse­tts was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Pawtucket.

At 10:30 PM, Edward Souza, age 60, of 1011 Dexter Street, 3rd floor, Central Falls, Rhode Island was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of Troopers investigat­ing a motor vehicle crash on Route 95 in Pawtucket.

At 11:19 PM, Luis Lopez, age 47, of 278 Webster Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Providence.

At 12:48 AM, Andrew Ginaitt, age 28, of 278 Grove Avenue, Warwick, Rhode Island was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown), chemical test refusal, and driving with a suspended license. This was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 10 in Cranston.

At 1:23 AM, Daniel Ferreira, age 42, of 5 Ames Street, apartment #5C, Dorchester, Massachuse­tts was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. – .093, .094). This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Service Road in Providence.

At 2:00 AM, Wlemogar Brown, age 30, of 6 Katherine Drive, Johnston. Rhode Island was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Pawtucket.

At 2:05 AM, Juan Vargas, age 21, of 24 Janet Drive, Johnston, Rhode Island was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C. unknown) and chemical test refusal. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Hartford Avenue in Johnston.

At 2:32 AM, Devon Acosta, age 31, of 142 Orchard Street apartment #3, Cranston, Rhode Island was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs (B.A.C unknown and chemical test refusal. This arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Twin River Road in Lincoln.
