1963 Inability to cash in from the charity stripe (13-of-30)

and early tilt exits by two starters caused Pawtucket West to drop a 57-53 decision to Westerly, defending Class A Suburban Division champion. Bob Mendes was high for the Rangers with 15 points, Bob Brierly canned 10 and Denny Lima, who left with a twisted knee at 4:38 in the final period, caged nine before his injury. Center Jack Lacerda, who is the Westerners best rebounder and one of their top scorers, fouled out with 1:52 still remaining in the third period.

1973 Woonsocket sprinted out to an 8-0 lead but Saint

Raphael Academy countered with a full court press forcing the Villa Novans into several mistakes as SRA rallied for a 72-59 win in a Metro Division II contest. Al Queenan captured scoring honors with 20 points, Mike Champagne drilled 19 and Tim Lagor added 14 for the Saints. Andy Harmon and Chuck Allaire were best for the losers with 15 and 14 points, respectively. The victory evened SRA’s division record at 2-2.

1983 Coach Jack Richer’s rejuvenated Shea sextet cap

tured a 4-3 Suburban Division win over West Warwick for their second consecutive victory after a six-game losing skid. The Raiders’ high-powered line of Dan Lemay, Rick Clermont and Jeff Cordeiro accounted for all the scoring. Clermont had two goals, both assisted by Cordeiro who notched an unassisted tally, while Lemay knocked in a power play rebound. Shea goalie Bob Harrop made 23 saves to be exact, none bigger than a kick save 11 seconds from the end while the Wizards were skating six-on-four (they had pulled goalie Paul Brien and Shea had a player in the penalty box).
