Car stop leads to arrest of fugitive wanted on felony burglary charge

WOONSOCKET — When police stopped Mark E. Landry’s car on Clinton Street, they quickly figured out two things.

One was that he never showed up for a mandatory appearance in court after being arrested for drunk driving over 18 months ago.

The other was that he hasn’t been able to stay out of trouble. A background check in the National Criminal Information Center database revealed that he’s wanted on a felony burglary warrant out of Attleboro, police reports say.

Landry, 43, is now held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions as a fugitive from justice in Massachusetts, according to the judiciary’s database. He is expected to be turned over to authorities in the Bay State. Landry gives his address as 333 Clinton St. – the Woonsocket Motor Inn.

Sgt. Michael Martinsen was working a “Click it or Ticket” detail Tuesday morning, Jan. 5, when he stopped Landry’s 2003 BMW in front of the motel. The officer said he was familiar with both the vehicle and Landry, though his report doesn’t elaborate.

After stopping the vehicle, Martinsen reported that the driver promptly admitted that his license “was no good.” Landry has multiple past

offenses for operating on a suspended license.

In addition to the fugitive charge, Landry was seized on a warrant issued by the Sixth District Court for his failure to appear on the pending drunk driving charges. He also faces a new count of driving on a suspended license.

He was also cited for driving on a revoked Massachusetts registration and operating without evidence of insurance.

According to the judiciary’s database, Landry was stopped by the Woonsocket police for drunk driving on Aug. 24, 2019.

Five days later, he failed to show up for a hearing in court and a warrant had been pending for his arrest ever since.

Landry has a hearing on the fugitive charge on Jan. 12.
