1963 The Sacred Heart Beavers spoiled “Jimmy McNaught Night” by edging arch-rival Central Falls 50-45 in a hotly-contested tilt before a sweltering crowd of more than 1,000 at the Mount St. Charles gym. McNaught, the lone Warrior in double figures, poured in 31 points on 11 field goals and nine free throws as he delivered another spectacular one-man performance for coach Omer Landry. SHA was led by Dick Rouleau’s 12 points, Norm Gousie’s 11 and Al Froment’s 10, while Manny Alvarez did a great job on the boards.

1973 Tom Conboy scored 17 points in the first half and became a dominant figure around Cumberland’s offensive backboards converting several chances on rebound shots to pace the Clippers to an 85-70 win over Central Falls in a non-league affair. Conboy finished with 31 points, while Rich Lengeiza and Mitch Malachowski supported his efforts with 20 and 18 points, respectively. The Warriors had good balance with Tom Tinkham scoring 19, Ken Knapp 18, Russ Standring 17 and Bob Matuszek 11.

1983 The Cumberland girls basketball team had good balanced scoring but that could not offset Julie Thornton’s 31 points (11 in the final stanza) as Bay View remained undefeated in the Class A North standings (5-0) registering a 69-58 loss to the Clippers. Kathy Pinto paced the locals with 16 points, Martha Lynch (eight rebounds) caged 14, Cyndie Cherubino (eight caroms) canned 12 and Roxanne LaBrosse (seven assists) chipped in with 10. t
