Carroll’s set Coach Andy Tucker’s Cumberland quintet, down 13 points with 30 seconds left in the third period, put on a great fourth quarter rally, but it fell just short as they bowed to Hope 68-64 in a state tournament qualifying round game before 600 fans. Entering the finale, the Clippers were behind 57-46 and it looked all over but Bobby Bisset, Mickey Cranshaw, Gerry Sanna & Co. had other ideas as they whittled away at the Blue Wave’s lead. Bisset, the leading scorer in Class C during the regular season, poured in a gamehigh 29 points, Sanna notched 14 and Cranshaw chipped in with 12.

1964

A basket by Holy Trinity’s Beverly Morrissey tied the score at 19-19 at the end of regulation play, however, St. Edward’s scored all eight points in the extra session for a 27-19 win to capture the Blackstone Valley Girls’ CYO Basketball League championship. Holy Trinity jumped off to an early 7-0 lead but the champs bounced back on the shooting of Debbie Muir, Kathy McCaughey, Judy Fournier and Kathy Barden. Muir took game-high honors with nine points, while Morrissey finished with eight.

1974

St. Jude’s of Lincoln took a one-game lead in the best-of-three Midget Division playoff finals in the Blackstone Valley CYO Basketball League with a 47-33 victory over St. Mary’s. Kevin Bisson torched the twines for a game-high 29 points for the winners. St. Jude led at all the period stops after overcoming an early 10-4 deficit and offsetting a 20-point showing by Mike Sullivan of St. Mary’s.
