1954 Pawtucket resident Dudley Richards and Anita Andres, Eastern States senior pair champions, will be featured in the Providence Figure Skating Club’s third annual “R. I. On Ice” show at the R. I. Auditorium. Richards is a former National Junior champion, Eastern States Novice, Junior and Senior Men’s champion. He was a member of the 1952 U. S. Winter Olympic team. Richards and Miss Andres, who passed up an opportunit­y to take part in the National figure skating championsh­ips to appear in the Providence show, will give the same exhibition that carried them to the Eastern title last month.

1964 The Tolman Tigers, roaring along with a 23-game winning streak, open their quest for the first New England basketball championsh­ip by a R. I. schoolboy team since 1939 taking on Bishop Cheverus of Portland, Maine on Boston Garden’s parquet floor. Coach Ted McConnon’s starting five has 6-foot-6 Don Suggs at center, 6-5 Gerry Suggs and 6-2 Frank Geiselman at the forward slots and 5-10 sharpshoot­er Jim Squadrito and 5-9 defensive whiz Ed DaCruz in the backcourt. Pawtucket never has produced a New England champion, losing in the 1932, ’38 and ’40 finals.

1974 St. Leo’s captured its second straight Blackstone Valley CYO Basketball League’s Intermedia­te Division title by sweeping St. Mathieu’s in their best-of-three series, the final game by a 56-47 count. Led by Bobby Asselin with 17 points and Bob Marcello with 14, the Lions outscored St. Mathieu’s 20-14 in the last period for the victory. Bob Messier garnered game-high honors with 28 points in a losing effort.
