1950 Cadet John J. Pimental of Pawtucket has won the 155-pound boxing championship of the Second Regiment, United States Corps of Cadets. The superior skill and aggressiveness that he exhibited led officials to describe his bouts as “the best for form and fight in the competition this year.” Cadet Pimental, who graduated from Pawtucket East where he distinguished himself as a student and won membership in the Rhode Island Honor Society, hopes upon graduation from the U. S. Military Academy in June 1953 to be commissioned in the Air Force or the Corps of Engineers.

1960 Ernie Brousseau, rookie baseball coach at Pawtucket Vocational, has three veterans returning in All-Valley first baseman Ed Kelly (.405), slick-fielding shortstop Joe Yelle and lefty outfielder Dave Azevedo. Senior Ed Dion, playing his first season, is set to open at second base with sophomore Bob Peckham at third. The outfield has sophomores Glen McGuy, Dan Kennedy and Dick Taylor vying for the two remaining flyhawk slots. Kelly is Brousseau’s No. 1 hurler with big Jeff Levesque and Azevedo also seeing action, while Dick Ditson has the catching chores.

1970 George Donnell, a husky senior right-hander, fired a no-hitter, struck out 16 and walked only two to pace Tolman to a 4-0 whitewash over Pawtucket West in the Metro Division opener for both nines at McCoy Stadium. Donnell’s performance over-shadowed a strong outing by Ranger sophomore Steve Reynolds, who allowed only four hits, fanned six and issued four free passes in his varsity debut. Singles by Guy Dufault and Joe Braganca knocked in two runs each, while Don Carter and Bill Britt had the other Tiger hits.
