1970 Pawtucket West captured four of five singles matches

and both doubles contests en route to a 6-1 romp over Cumberland in a Northern Division tennis affair at the Oak Hill Tennis Club. Jim Botvin (6-3, 6-1), Mike Raulston (3-6, 6-4, 6-1), Pete Zwetchkenb­aum (6-2, 6-3) and Ray Pita (62, 6-4) were victorious in singles while the doubles tandems of Raulston-Zwetchkenb­aum (9-7) and Jeff Boghossian-Steve Goulet (9-4) also produced points for the Rangers. No. 1 singles player Mark Murray (7-5, 6-4) had the only point for the Clippers.

1980 Tolman’s foursome of Willie Kando, Steve Jones,

Mike Augustyn and Don Morin teamed for a 4:01.8 clocking in the 4x400-meter relay in the final event to propel the Tigers to a 50-47 win over cross-town rival Shea in an outdoor triangular track meet with St. George’s at Max Read Field. John McLaughlin collected Tolman’s only other first-place finish with a hammer throw of 151-4. Raider sophomore Bob Oliveira took the 100 in 11.4 and the 200 in 23.1, an auspicious debut for the young dasher, while Bill DelSanto jumped 20 feet to win the long jump and Kevin Crawley captured the 3000 in 9:44 for Shea.

1990 Coach Brother William Farias’ young team broke

into the victory column as Saint Raphael Academy nipped Burrillvil­le 4-3 in a Suburban Division tennis match. Keith Wilk (6-0, 5-7, 6-3), Mike Healey (6-0, 6-3) and Steve Bradley (6-3, 6-3) captured singles matches and the second doubles duo of Eric Champagne-Rich Maher (2-6, 6-3, 7-5) clinched the victory with a tough three-setter. The Broncos notched a win in singles, Scott Tancrede (6-2, 6-1), and two in doubles, Mike Polocek-Steve Porter (6-4, 6-3) and Taka ItoMary Beth Aubin (6-7 (5-4), 6-3, 6-3).
