Carolers to sing Monday
WOONSOCKET – St. James Episcopal and St. Mark Lutheran churches announce that they will be singing Christmas carols at their respective locations on Monday, Dec. 6 – which is officially St. Nicholas Day. The performances will take place at the St. James, located at 24 Hamlet Ave., from 4-5 p.m., and the St. Mark, at 871 Harris Ave., from 5-6 p.m. The churches encourage everyone, young and old, to join in or just walk by to enjoy the music, along with some free hot chocolate. Dress for the weather, the churches advise.
Main Street stroll slated for Saturday
After getting tripped-up by the pandemic, the Main Street Holiday Stroll makes its return as an in-person event for the first time since 2019 on Saturday, organizers have announced.
The Downtown Woonsocket Collaborative said the 13th annual installment of the small business promotional event will include a scavenger hunt with “great prizes,” a tree ornament contest, a “kids’ zone” with craft stations, food vendors, a fire performer, a best-dressed window contest, a trolley ride through the downtown area and – a crowd favorite – a horse and buggy ride through the city.
The festivities last from 2-7 p.m., the group said.
There will be entertainment and musical performances throughout the event.
As part of the celebration, the City of Woonsocket is bringing back the Winter Wonderland at River Island Art Park, where children can take a pony ride, visit a live-animal petting zoo or have their photograph taken with Santa Claus, who arrives by fire truck about 4 p.m. There will be a tree-lighting ceremony in the park at 5 p.m.
A number of local shops, cultural and educational organizations will be open during the Stroll, including the Woonsocket Historical Society, Millrace Event Space, New York Lunch, Renaissance Tattoo, BL Beauty, Timeless Antiques, Angels Boutique, The Babe Kave, All Choices International Market, Trendz, Convenience Store, Past Down in Time, Geri’s Bluffing Boutique, Beacon Charter High School for the Arts, Monument Square Arts and Yaya Tree of Life.
Musical performances will be provided by Jeff Gamache, John Scotti, VIDA Church, Krylo Dance Studio, Mount Saint Charles Band, Cirque De Light, Woonsocket High School Music Department and Lyrics in Motion.
