• ST. AGATHA SENIORS NOV. 17th: There will be no meeting on Nov. 24th because of Thanksgivi­ng. Our next meeting will be on December 1st and this will be the last time you can purchase a ticket for the Christmas Dinner scheduled for December 8th. Sunshine Lady Constance Bonin sent a get well card to Claudette Gravel and Barbara Decrestofo­ro. President Gerard Robidoux encouraged the members to get their booster shot as soon as possible, He thanked Edward Aubin who made the memorial board for the club and he also mentioned that a suggestion box is available at all the meetings and the members should make use of it with negative or positive ideas. He prefers the positive ones. He also announced that instead of joining the Go To Me Fund for Barbara there will be a container for members to donate for her and the club will match the amount. The money will be given directly to her family. Celebratin­g birthdays were: Lucille Lajoie, Muriel Turcotte, Doris Burrows, Nancy Montaque Rand, Claire Brodeur, Vivian Cadieux, Pauline Belisle, Claire Biron, Lorraine Lataille, Edith Archambaul­t and Marguerite Deragon. • St Joseph Meeting of Nov. 9. President, Fran Robidoux opened the meeting. Prayers were offered for Barbara DiChristof­aro and Fred Coughlin. OLD BUSINESS – Membership dues and the Dollar a Month club are being collected at every meeting. Please update your info if there are any changes. Flyers are on the front table for the activities through the year 2021. The slate of elected officers: President, Fran Robidoux – Vice President, Gerry Robidoux – Secretary, Claire Brodeur – Treasurer – Pat Palardy will be sworn in at the Christmas Party. • Come join the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council as it kicks off the 2021 holiday season with its production of the popular “Polar Express Train Ride,” presented by Navigant Credit Union. The three-hour experience is based on the children’s book, “The Polar Express” by noted Rhode Island author Chris Van Allsburg. It also was made into an animated family movie starring award-winning actor Tom Hanks. The rides will be available on weekends between Friday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 19 at the historic Blackstone Valley Train Depot at 1 Depot Square. BVTC officials suggest people put on their pajamas for the trip, which features a 90-minute excursion on a real, live train and a reading of the classic children’s story, singalongs, hot chocolate, a delicious Polar Express cookie, games and a special visit from Santa Claus. Sanga will deliver the first Christmas gift to every child. During the trip, passengers will have the chance to view the North Pole, including a 35-foot Christmas tree, gorgeous decoration­s and elves to welcome the train’s arrival. The elves will include children from the Dance Step performing. A wonderful addition to this year’s extravagan­za is a brand new stage show, one orchestrat­ed by renowned performer Emily Luther from The Voice. Mount St. Charles Creative Director John Guevremont and some of his students will take guests through the introducti­on of The Polar Express story. This show will begin 30 minutes before each trip and will lead passengers into the calling of “All aboard!” BVTC is looking for volunteers for various positions at the event. • Good Shepherd Catholic Regional School, located at 1210 Mendon Road in Woonsocket is holding an open house on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointmen­t only. Families interested in enrolling their child for the 2022-2023 school year in the Pre-K Three Year Old Program through Grade 8 are welcome to tour the facility. • On December 5, 2021 the Fairlawn Business Associatio­n and City of Pawtucket will present the Annual Fairlawn Tree Lighting Ceremony at Nathanael Greene Elementary. Starting at 4:00PM, the Pawtucket Public Safety Department and Public Works Department will host a Touch-a-Truck event for families to enjoy. Plouffe’s Cup N Saucer will be providing hot chocolate and cookies for the event and the countdown to the tree lighting will begin at 5:30PM. The event is free and open to the public. Given the rise in COVID-19 case numbers in Rhode Island, this will be hosting a COVID-safe event outdoors and ask that any resident who feels ill to please stay home. The Woonsocket Main Street Holiday Stroll makes its return as an in-person event for the first time since 2019 on Saturday, organizers have announced. The Downtown Woonsocket Collaborat­ive said the 13th annual installmen­t of the small business promotiona­l event will include a scavenger hunt with “great prizes,” a tree ornament contest, a “kids’ zone” with craft stations, food vendors, a fire performer, a best-dressed window contest, a trolley ride through the downtown area and – a crowd favorite – a horse and buggy ride through the city. The festivitie­s last from 2-7 p.m., the group said.
