1969

Tournament MVP George Coderre fired in a gamehigh 21 points to spark Sacred Heart Academy to a 44-40 win over defending champion St. Patrick’s of Elizabeth, New Jersey in the Hendricken Invitation­al Basketball Festival championsh­ip game. In the semifinal contest, SHA had five players hit for double digits in a 75-55 win over host Bishop Herndricke­n. Bob Patenaude’s 19 points were high for the Beavers followed by Cazzie Malec with 17 points and nine rebounds, Ernie Crowell with 15 points and 12 caroms, and Paul Berard and Coderre with 10 points apiece.

1989

Ed Berube scored 1:03 into overtime to give Tolman, which rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the final three minutes of regulation play, a 6-5 victory over Ponaganset­t in a Met B thriller. Berube and Gary Pedro sparked the Tiger offense, Berube with a hat trick and Pedro with two goals and four assists. Tolman assistant coach Ray Cooper said that goalie Jason Peloquin (32 saves) was basically a one-man gang in the third period and kept the Tigers in the game.

1999

T. J. Sorrentine of Saint Raphael Academy and Davies’ Rohan Russell are waging a hotly-contested battle for the Times’ Blackstone Valley basketball scoring crown with Sorrentine having the edge with 27.2 points per game over Russell’s 27.1. Rounding out the top 10 point-getters are Marco Barrera of Central Falls (20.2), Cumberland’s John O’Neill (20.0), Eric Rodriguez of CF (19.3), Shea’s Hector Morales (19.2), Tolman’s Tiatun Brownsmith (18.5), Matt Daignault of Lincoln (17.0), Shea’s Greg Feole (16.7) and Carlos Moreira of SRA is 10th with a 16.4 mark.
