1967 Cumberland’s Brad Jenks and Carol (Bunny) Read walked off with top honors in Saturday’s slalom ski race at the Diamond Hill State Park. Jenks, regarded as one of New England’s finest junior skiers, flashed down the icy course on the big hill in 21.7 seconds, while Read led the girls with a time of 34 seconds. Cumberland’s Tommy Egan captured the tough men’s division posting a time of 22.4. The 149 contestants, racing in eight different divisions, were limited to single runs due to the icy conditions that caused numerous spills and washouts.

1967 Senior winger Scott Lavallee keyed a Cumberland victory by scoring two goals and also turning in a particularly big defensive play as the Clippers avenged an earlier loss to Shea by posting a 4-2 decision and enhanced their position for the Metro B-Two Division hockey playoffs.

Chris Carney and Chris Correia provided Cumberland with its other goals, while Howie Rosenblatt and Mark DaCosta tallied for the Raiders. The division-champion Shea sextet dropped to 15-3-1 and the Clippers improved to 13-4-2, good for a second place tie with Tolman (14-5-0).

1997 Casey Carney of Bishop Feehan has a commanding three-point lead with a 31.8 points-per-game average in The Times area schoolboy scoring race. Rounding out the top six point-getters are Saint Raphael Academy’s Robert Griffin (28.8 ppg), Scott Mahoney of Seekonk (22.1), Shea’s Jose Resendes (21.0), Patrick Nee of SRA (21.0) and in sixth place is Attleboro’s Leland Anderson with a 20.8 mark. Nee is tops in treys made with 77, Griffin has the best single-game high of 45 points and Justin Strothoff of Lincoln is the pacesetter in free throws with a 96% (48-50) efficiency.
