1980

Karen Durand fired a four-hitter, struck out 18 batters and lashed three hits to spark the Corner Pub to a 12-5 rout of Costigan’s Ambulance Service in a Pawtucket Slaterette­s’ Baseball Instructio­nal League playoff tilt. Wendy Jacques accounted for eight RBI including a grand slam. In Senior Division action, Jeannine Chartier belted four singles, three doubles and drove in 10 runs as Frances Insurance captured its third straight championsh­ip with a two-game sweep over Pawtucket Teachers’ Alliance, 9-3 and 26-5.

1990

Coach Mac Wright’s Cumberland Post boys, their American Legion state playoff hopes hanging by a thread, battled Shields Post down to the bottom of the seventh inning before losing 3-2. Brad Reynolds went the distance for the locals allowing seven hits, fanning two, walking five and yielding only two earned runs. Heath Lefort led Cumberland in hitting with three singles, while Steve St. Andre and Chris Benoit knocked in one run apiece.

2000

Corey Parker’s two-run blast in the first inning gave the Darlington American Little League All-Stars a 2-0 cushion en route to an 8-3 drilling of South Kingstown in a state championsh­ip losers’ bracket encounter.

Zack MacClellan­d yielded five hits, a trio of earned runs, a walk and whiffed four in 4.1 frames, while Jason Szlachiuck rapped a two-run single for the locals. “We had a nice rebound after dropping a 4-1 decision to defending champion Lincoln in a first-round game,” said DALL skipper Jim Mello. “All 14 guys contribute­d, and this was a big win for us.”
