Six students earn Mount scholarshi­ps

WOONSOCKET – Six Cumberland students will attend Mount Saint Charles Academy this fall under a new scholarshi­p program awarding up to $5,000 to youth who exemplify values embodied by one Catholic priest and six saints.

The minimum award is $1,000. Current tuition at Mount Saint Charles is $11,000 for grades 6-8 and $16,050 for grades 9-12. The scholarshi­ps are the: Monsignor Charles Dauray Scholarshi­p for academic achievemen­t and problem-solving initiative; St. Aloysius Gonzaga Leadership Scholarshi­p for leadership qualities; St. Catherine of Siena Scholarshi­p for students who are active outside the classroom in Scouting, community service, sports, etc.; St. Francis of Assisi Scholarshi­p for students interested in the environmen­t; St. Genesius Scholarshi­p for Artistic Excellence, for excellence in creative writing, dance, drama, music or visual art; St. Vincent de Paul Scholarshi­p for interest in charitable acts; St. Martin de Porres Scholarshi­p, named after the patron saint of the racial harmony and social justice, for a student or students of color.

“A student body of diverse talents and life experience­s is the foundation of a strong learning environmen­t,” said Mount Saint Charles President Alan Tenreiro. The scholarshi­p recipients are: Jake Hammerschl­ag, St. Catherine of Siena Scholarshi­p; Mason Mieczynski, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Leadership Scholarshi­p; Rising ninth graders; Brooke Hogan, St. Vincent de Paul Scholarshi­p; Addison Johnson, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Leadership Scholarshi­p; Emily Russo, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Leadership Scholarshi­p; Kyla Smilevski, St. Catherine of Siena Scholarshi­p.
