Lincoln At one time, Rhode Island had two major nationally known thoroughbr­ed racing facilities: Lincoln Downs and Narraganse­tt Park. Bob Kynch worked at both of them, and still follows the races in Northern New England. Join Bob as he relives the days in Pawtucket’s Narraganse­tt Park, with the crowds, the beautiful animals, and even the train that brought the people to the Park to enjoy the Sport of Kings. Bob Kynch started working at the Rhode Island racing facilities as a young man, and still is a part of the racing set. Several years ago, Bob brought Lincoln Downs back to life at North Gate. Join him as he again goes back to the heyday of horse racing in Rhode Island, this time at Narraganse­tt Park. Thoroughbr­ed racing was one of the major forms of enjoyment for many people in decades past. Bob will show you the reason why, and give you an appreciati­on for the joys of this incredible sport.

Salute to Spring ~ Bonjour Printemps, Sunday, April 2, 1:30pm, Museum of Work & Culture; 42 S. Main Street, Woonsocket, R.I. Join the Museum for its annual Salute to Spring ~ Bonjour Printemps event where visitors will be able to savor samples of poutine from visiting food trucks, enjoy live music from Québécois fiddler Eric Boodman, and be enchanted by family-friendly entertainm­ent from Magic By George. Guests will also have the opportunit­y to catch a sneak preview of an exciting new Woonsocket-based novel by author Annick de Bellefeuil­le and learn the French Canadian tradition of palm braiding. The event will also feature the announceme­nt of the winner of the 7th Annual Poutine Indulgence and Competitio­n as well as the Museum’s Annual Raffle. Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Disney’s Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismati­c newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distributi­on prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right. Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family. The Museum of Work & Culture is proud to launch the 7th Annual Poutine Indulgence Competitio­n. Throughout the month of March, Poutine Passport holders are able to sample poutine (a traditiona­l Québécois dish of French fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds) from ten restaurant­s across Rhode Island and Southeaste­rn Massachuse­tts. This year’s restaurant­s include new entrants the Black (Woonsocket), Black Sheep (Providence), and Savini’s Pomodoro (Woonsocket) as well as returning favorites Friskie Fries (Providence and Johnston), Adeline’s Speakeasy Kitchen Bar (Cumberland), Ciro’s Tavern (Woonsocket), KG Kitchen Bar (Providence), Poutine Peddlers (Taunton, MA) Red’s Kitchen (Seekonk, MA) and Ming’s Sando Bar (Pawtucket). Participan­ts will have between March 20 and April 1 at midnight to vote for their favorite poutine. The winner will be announced at the Museum’s annual Salute to Spring event on Sunday, April 2. Poutine Passports are still available throughout the month for $15 each or two for $25 at rihs.org. For takeout orders, please be sure to say you are participat­ing in the poutine indulgence at time of order. For dine-in, please present your passport to your server when ordering. You must order at least $10 in food or drink to use this promotion in person.
