1966 Pawtucket West’s Leo Frade (5-foot-10, 150), a “one
man gang” who averaged 18.5 points, heads the Pawtucket Times’ All-Blackstone Valley schoolboy basketball Second Team. Rounding out the second five are Pete Stratton (6-4, 195) of Saint Raphael Academy, who tallied at 11.4 and used his size to tremendous advantage, while Tolman’s Art Pontarelli (6-3, 180) scored at a 16.1 pace. Sniper Russ Gregory (5-10, 145) of Central Falls averaged 14.7 points and Sacred Heat Academy’s Tom Farley (6-2, 160) was the Beavers’ best rebounder and scored at a 12.8 mark.

Mike Dwyer scored his second goal of the game at 5:12 of the second six-minute period of sudden-death play giving Burrillville an emotionally draining and physically exhausting 4-3 victory over defending champion Lincoln in the deciding game of the Metropolitan B State Hockey Tournament. John Charette and Keith Frennette had the other Bronco goals, while Ken Wood, Ray Cournoyer and Dan Fawcett scored for Lions coach Ross Brooks. The title was the first for Burrillville and 75-year-old coach Tom Eccleston since the Broncos reign over the Interscholastic League Tournament ended in 1973.

Lefebvre captured her first titles ever as she finished first in the women’s division in both fighting and forms at the North American Sport Karate Association/Rhode Island Championships. Lefebvre, a 1982 Saint Raphael Academy graduate, credits her success in karate to coaches Larry and Robin Sullivan, the husband-and-wife team that run the Nick Cerio’s Kenpo School. “It was great to win,” said Lefebvre. “I showed the trophy to my grandmother, and she said “Oh my, they sure do make them big nowadays.’
