LaSalette Shrine lights restored, but many still without power in Mass.

- By DAVID LINTON

The holiday light display at LaSalette Shrine, heavily damaged during Monday’s powerful rain and wind storm, will be on again Wednesday night after workers raced to make repairs with Christmas just days away.

The traditional lights were knocked out and several trees were blown over at the Park Street shrine, which draws thousands every year during the Christmas season.

Meanwhile, Attleboro District Court was closed Wednesday for a second day and court sessions were transferred to Taunton District Court.

National Grid has made progress in restoring power. There were 3,700 customers in The Sun Chronicle readership area without electricity at 10 a.m. Wednesday, two days after the storm, down from 12,000 Tuesday morning.

In Attleboro, 826 had no power, down about 3,000 from Tuesday. Wrentham had 268 still without power, down about 1,000 customers.

On Tuesday, Wrentham Village Premium Outlets had only 53 of its over 160 stores open due to the power outage, according to its website.

However, the link to that press release was down Wednesday morning and a spokesperson for the mall could not immediately be reached by The Sun Chronicle.

A National Grid spokesman said Wednesday morning that substantial progress has been made since the storm hit Monday, “but there is still much work left to do to get every customer’s power back.”

“We have crews from all over, including New York, Canada and even Kentucky, helping us today” working in The Sun Chronicle communities as well as South Shore communities like Pembroke, Norwell and others, spokesman John Lamontagne said.

“Crews will be working to restore as many customers as they possibly can by the end of the day,” Lamontagne said.

Restoration estimates on the utility’s website indicate power will be restored to all customers by 10 a.m. Thursday, but the information is continually updated.

Meanwhile, more roads shut down because of fallen trees and wires have reopened.

In Attleboro, Tiffany Street was expected to be reopened about 9 p.m. Wednesday, and Mechanic Street was expected to be reopened in another 24 to 48 hours, according to Police Chief Kyle Heagney.

In Wrentham, route 1A and 140 were still closed Wednesday morning, according to Police Chief Bill McGrath.
