SAN JOSE » Big buildings in San Jose occupied by a highprofile maker of medical devices have been bought by a real estate company with a global reach, extending the heated interest in Silicon Valley tech hubs.

Bridge Industrial, a major industrial developer, has bought three tech buildings occupied by Beckton Dickinson and one of its units, BD Biosciences, according to documents filed on Aug. 11 with the Santa Clara County Recorder’s Office.

Acting through an affiliate, Bridge Industrial paid $134 million for the buildings, the county documents show.

The buildings are located at 2350 Qume Drive, 2360 Qume Drive, 2222 Qume Drive, and 2150 Commerce Drive, according to the property records.

Beckton Dickinson was the seller of the properties and occupies all three of the buildings.

Illinois-based Bridge Industrial intends to bulldoze the sites and replace them with modern industrial buildings, documents filed with San Jose city planners show.

The parcels that Bridge is eyeing for development total a combined 32.1 acres, records filed with the County Assessor’s Office show.

Bridge Industrial’s affiliate, Qume and Commerce LLC, also obtained a loan from Invesco CMI Investments to finance the purchase.

The loan totaled $81.2 million, according to the public property documents.

Bridge Industrial has proposed the development of 710,400 square feet of industrial space in four buildings. The project envisions both on-site employment activities as well as operations involving big trucks.

The proposal is in its very preliminary stages and is being floated at City Hall to gauge reactions and responses from city planners.

“The proposed project would provide up to 416 vehicle and 138 truck trailer parking spaces on-site,” the preliminary development plans state.
