C.A.R.E.

Dear Readers,

-

We hope you find C. A.R.E. a helpful resource as you navigate a life that involves cancer. Each section is designed to provide information about all the ways cancer changes your life and how you and your loved ones can adapt to those changes. In the first section, Knowledge is Power, you can learn basic prevention information as well as how cancer affects your body, cancer stages and myths vs. facts. Through The Journey section, you’ll find what you can expect when you begin treatment, including side effects, food remedies and the healthcare providers who will be on your team. Two stories explore important topics in this section — how to be an informed patient and the benefits of complementary care, such as CBD products, massage and acupuncture, that can ease your side effects.

Don’t miss the listings in Programs and Resources. This is where you’ll find a detailed list of all the programs and resources — from support groups and food delivery to financial support and transportation services — available locally or on the internet. The Relationships and Support section addresses critical concerns, such as how to cope with friendship changes and how to talk to your child about cancer. Caregivers and partners will find tips on how they can best help. This section also includes the complexities of navigating grief. Cancer Logistics can guide you through the practical aspects of coping with a serious illness — health insurance, managing work, writing wills and hospice considerations. The guide ends with volunteer options and save-the- date events throughout 2019.

Throughout C. A.R.E., you’ll find a continuing theme: You’re not alone. Take advantage of the support that is around you. In addition to the range of healthcare providers who will care for you, patient navigators and social workers will help you find resources you need; fellow patients are available through support groups; our community of holistic providers can ease your mind and body; and family and friends want to help you through this. We wish you strength and comfort in your journey.
