Cancer again

-

Although it may be difficult, try your best not to panic if you learn about a recurrence or a second type of cancer. Just as you did before, talk to your doctor if you are worried about treatment. You need to feel comfortable with this course of action and approach the journey, like you did the first time, the best way you can. Discuss all choices with your cancer care team, those in your support group and especially with members of your family.

Treatment decisions for a recurrence or a second cancer can be based on: • Type of cancer

• Your overall health

• Your personal values and wishes for treatment

• Status of original cancer

• How well you tolerate treatment

• Length of time between the original diagnosis and the recurrence

• The cancer’s aggressiveness

• Your age
