Explore Palm Beach Island in Florida for the (money) smell of it. You’ll see what we mean.

Come for the views and the history. Stay for a while to enjoy the smell and feel of money … in a good way.

- BY ALEJANDRO JUAN

Palm Beach Island is located in Palm Beach County, Florida, within what is now considered the “Miami Metro Area.” The three counties which make up “South Florida” – Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach – has become a thriving metropolis with vibrant LatinX culture spanning the length of at least a three-hour Sunday drive along A1A.

Unfortunately, so many people get lost in the hustle and bustle of South Beach that they forget to travel north to a quieter, historic treasure sitting along the Atlantic Ocean – The

Breakers Resort on Palm Beach Island.

Worth Avenue and the island itself are beautiful and pristine. But the gem, the show stopper, the star of this South Florida location is The Breakers – a century-old resort for the rich who can be enjoyed by anyone, any day for any occasion. And, as I recently discovered, the resort comes with an extra bonus: the smell and feel of money.

If you’ve read the American novel The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, or have seen the movie starring Leonardo di Caprio, this reference to the emotional connection to

“money” must sound familiar. The resort is the Daisy of the island. She’s the girl Gatsby wants to be near. He loves her, but the feeling, scents, and sounds of sweet opulence are her true essence. It’s hard to imagine until you experience it for yourself as I did at The Breakers.

For less than $30, I spent an afternoon enjoying the historic site, its views, and its many unique gems. I invite you to stop by, just once, and be Gatsby for a day. His Daisy broke his heart. This Daisy will steal yours. ■
