Add another name to the Charlotte Hornets’ list of candidates for their head coaching vacancy. And this one is well known among college basketball fans in the Carolinas.

The Hornets plan to interview current ESPN analyst JJ Redick, according to The Athletic. It’s an interesting choice since Reddick has no prior coaching experience at any level and just recently launched a new podcast with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

Redick, a 15-year NBA veteran, is currently part of the lead ESPN/ABC broadcast team along with play-by-play voice Mike Breen and color analyst Doris Burke. He’s the all-time leading scorer at Duke, compiling 2,769 points, and his No. 4 jersey is retired in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Although he’s never roamed the sidelines as a coach, Redick’s lengthy NBA career gives him a unique perspective and could wind up aiding him during the interview process. He played for six teams before retiring in 2021, slowly beginning his rise at ESPN.

Finding Steve Clifford’s

replacement is chief among the offseason tasks on the plate of Hornets vice president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson. Overall, the Hornets have been mum on the search, quietly conducting interviews since April 3 when Clifford announced he was moving into an advisory role.
