Frontier Airlines adds direct flight from Charlotte to Miami

Frontier Airlines is adding another new nonstop route from Charlotte, this time heading to Miami starting in the summer, the company announced on Tuesday.

Flights between Miami Internatio­nal Airport and Charlotte Douglas Internatio­nal Airport will occur three times a week, according to the airline. The low-fare carrier will begin service on July 5.

Miami is the latest route expansion out of CLT for Frontier.

The Denver-based company is adding the route to five others that started this month from Charlotte Douglas. Three more routes are coming in May and June. Frontier will offer 15 total routes from Charlotte.

Charlotte Douglas broke records for passenger travel last year, with 53.4 million passengers catching flights from the airport. Charlotte’s airport also ranked as the seventh-busiest airport worldwide for arrivals and departures, according to the Airport Council Internatio­nal’s preliminar­y rankings for 2022.

ABOUT FRONTIER’S NEW FLIGHTS OUT OF CHARLOTTE

In February, the airline announced a new nonstop connection to the Cincinnati region, with service starting May 16. Flights from Charlotte Douglas to Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky Internatio­nal Airport will run four times a week.

Service to six U.S. cities and one Caribbean destinatio­n was announced earlier this year. Those destinatio­ns are: New York/LaGuardia; Houston-Bush; DallasFort­h Worth; Chicago O’Hare; Baltimore-Washington; Buffalo, New York; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The daily and weekly service for those destinatio­ns will start in the spring and summer.

Frontier is another option for passengers for the airport dominated by American Airlines, which accounts for about 90% of all flights out of Charlotte Douglas.

By choosing Miami,

Frontier is positionin­g itself to fly into another American hub.
