Hunter’s All American Summer opens with the Bohannons

- STAFF REPORT

Hunter Museum of American Art kicks off its All American Summer concert series tonight, July 7, with the heavy- metal guitars of Chattanooga rock band the Bohannons.

Now in its ninth year, the six-week outdoor concert series featuring all local bands takes place on the museum’s 24-hour terrace overlooking the Tennessee River.

Each of the acts will play a 90-minute set starting at 6 p.m. each Thursday. Concerts are included with regular museum admission, which is normally $15 for nonmembers 18 and older.

However, two first Thursdays fall within the span of the concert series, and those dates are Throwback Thursdays, when admission after 4 p.m. is the“throwback” price of $5.

The galleries also will be open for tours. Currently on view is “Masters of the Golden Age: Harvey Dunn and His Students,” which features 80 works by an artist whose paint- erly illustrations were featured in periodicals in the late 19th and early 20th century before photography rose to prominence.

The gallery is open to 8 p.m.; last tickets are sold 30 minutes before closing time.

All American Summer concerts feature a cash bar serving beer, wine, bottled water and soda. Preview videos of each band performing in the museum’s galleries will be posted each week to the Hunter’s Facebook page.
