Movies in the Park sets up the big screen at Coolidge
Coolidge Park will become a sea of camp chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and people the next four Saturdays as first Things First returns with its annual Movies in the Park — a chance for families to watch recent box- office favorites while relaxing under the stars.
Included in this year’s lineup is the December 2015 film from director J.J. Abrams that has become the top-grossing film of all time.
“Movies in the Park is one of our favorite events,” says Julie Baumgardner, president and CEO of First Things First, a family advocacy organization. “We encourage families to join us and enjoy some quality time together. Memories are sure to be made.”
The free movie will begin each week at sundown, just after 9 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase on-site. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent at all times in Coolidge Park.
Due to licensing restrictions, the movie titles can’t be published, but First Things First offers the following clues.
› July 9: Funny little yellow creatures are recruited by a supervillain who, alongside her inventor husband, hatches a plot to take over the world.
› July 16: A police officer rabbit and wily fox set out to solve a mysterious case in a bustling animal metropolis.
› July 23: The galaxy faces a new threat from the dark side, but a young duo join forces to defeat evil and restore order in the universe.
› July 30: A hockey- l oving 11-year-old girl has her world turned upside down when her family moves to San Francisco, but her emotions try to guide her through this life-changing event.
