Faculty chamber recital Friday features Lee’s Smith and friends
Lee University’s School of Music will host a faculty chamber recital by Dr. Cahill Smith on Friday, Sept. 23. He’ll be joined by guest artists Geoffrey Herd ( violin), Deanna Anderson ( viola) and Heather Anderson (cello). The program i ncludes piano quartets by Mozart and Brahms.
An assistant professor of piano at Lee, Smith performs as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, China, Ukraine, England and Ireland. While pursuing his doctorate at Eastman School of Music, he received the Douglas Lowry award for excell ence in performance, won the Eastman Concerto Competition and was awarded the Prize for Excellence in Teaching as a graduate assistant. He also holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Deanna Anderson, a Minneapolis- St. Paul native, is a freelance performer and teacher recently based in Paris. She holds degrees from the Juilliard School, t he Cleveland Institute of Music and the Conservatoire de Paris.
Heather Anderson, based in Chattanooga, teaches and performs as a chamber and orchestral musician, recently including principal positions with the Orford Acade- my Orchestra in Quebec and the Colorado College Summer Music Festival Orchestra. She holds a Bachelor of Music in cello performance from the Eastman School of Music.
Herd, who recently joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. He received an artist diploma from Yale University, where he was the recipient of the Broadus Erle Prize for excellence in violin and also holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and Rice University.
Smith describes the piano quartet as “an intimate chamber ensemble with a beautiful repertoire.”
The free recital begins at 7: 30 p. m. in Squires Recital Hall in the Humanities Building, 1250 Parker St. NE in Cleveland, Tenn.
