One of the most popular vendors in the annual Houston Museum Antiques Show and Sale is returning to town this weekend for a two-day fundraiser at the Houston Museum of Decorative Arts on High Street.

That vendor, Collectanea, will be featured in an antique and estate jewelry sale Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12, at the museum. A portion of sales will be donated to the museum. Museum Director Amy Autenreith says because the show will take up the first floor of the museum, no tours of the museum will be held Friday or Saturday.

Collectanea is a Memphis antiques company operated by husband and wife David and Lynda Weaver, who will both be at the museum for this show.

“I’ve been doing the Houston Antiques Show for 26 years, and the museum has been very good to me. I have a lot of wonderful customers in Chattanooga, and this is my attempt to give back,” says Lynda Weaver.

She has been in the antiques/estate jewelry business for 60 years. Her love of collecting was a natural result of her par- ents’ hobby — only they all search for vastly different collectibles.

“One of my earliest memories is riding on my daddy’s shoulders going to a flea market. I was about 2. My mother had a thing for cast-iron pots and collected them. My dad loved animals and liked pieces that had hand-carved animals on them. I liked everything that sparkled,” she laughs.

“I found what I call my first ‘real piece’ when I was 16. It’s a silver bangle bracelet that looks like bamboo leaves. I’ll be wearing it at the show — but it’s not for sale,” she says.

What will be for sale are pieces of jewelry from pre-Colombian and Roman eras to Victorian, Georgian, Art Deco and midcentury periods.

“There is something for everybody. I’ll have pieces priced from $50 up to several thousand dollars. Rings and earrings are always a favorite, and I’ll have unusual gemstones such as blue tourmaline and a strand of orange sapphire beads with a chartreuse fish clasp.”

There is no admission charged to view the jewelry show.
