Authors autograph ‘Mama Peaches,’ ‘Volunteer Bama Dawg,’ ‘Mongrels’
Two local authors have scheduled book signings at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, and a novelist from Boulder, Colo, will be visiting Star Line Books, 1467 Market St., next week.
› Barnes & Noble will host Christopher-Charles Chaney, whose new book is “Mama Peaches and Me: Wit and Wisdom for Worn-Out Caregivers,” and longtime broadcaster David Carroll, whose latest release is “Volunteer Bama Dawg: A TV Guy’s Love Letter to the South.”
In “Mama Peaches,” Chaney writes about what it means to love and care for an aging parent, using personal stories, no-nonsense advice and a healthy dose of humor to help caregivers minimize stress, burnout, depression and guilt.
Chaney spent 20 years in executive management before a brutal downsizing by his federal employer forced him into early retirement and into a new role as his mother’s caregiver. The book grew from a single observation about his mother’s exploits that he posted to Facebook as a stress release. Sequels are due in 2017 and 2018.
He is also the author of “Breaking the Healing Code” and an active member of the National Family Caregivers Support Program.
He’ll sign copies of “Mama Peaches” at 6 p.m. today, Nov. 10.
In “Volunteer Bama Dawg,” Carroll tells the stories of his life and career. He is an anchor/reporter at WRCB-TV, where he’s worked since 1987, and hosts a weekend radio show, “The Vinyl Express,” on 95.3 FM.
The book includes more than 60 photographs and a range of comical, historical and sentimental stories that he honed with audiences while touring for his first book, “Chattanooga Radio and Television,” an ode to the icons of local broadcasting.
He’ll sign copies of “Volunteer Bama Dawg” at noon Saturday, Nov. 12. Proceeds from sales will go to the Family Justice Center of Chattanooga.
Also on the horizon is a visit by November Author of the Month Natasha P. Ellis. She’ll sign copies of “Letters to My Youngins: Pivotal Moments in My Twenties of Life, Death and Realization” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.
