Many restaurants are offering discounts or freebies to veterans and military personnel on Veterans Day.

Some promotions may be dinein only, some locations of a chain may not be participating and some restaurants require ordering from a select menu. Proof of service is almost always required.

These are among the restaurants offering free meals, as complied at themilitarywallet.com, www.military.com and www.thebalance.com, whose lists are being updated daily.

All offers are good Friday, Nov. 11, unless otherwise noted.

› Applebee’s: Free meal from among seven entrees. Current and former military personnel will receive a $5 coupon to redeem on a later visit. Messages to veterans and service members to Applebee’s Thank You Movement online.

› Bar Louie: Free appetizer or entree.

› Bonefish Grille: Free Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer.

› Buffalo Wild Wings: Free order of wings and side of fries.

› Carrabba’s Italian Grill: Free appetizer through Sunday, Nov. 13.

› Chicken Salad Chick: Free meal and drink. › Chili’s: Free meal. › Chuck E. Cheese: Free individual one- topping pizza with offer code 5258.

› Cracker Barrel: Free piece of Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake for dessert. Also, Cracker Barrel will donate 10 percent of proceeds from sales of its rocking chairs through Friday. › Mellow Mushroom: The two Chattanooga restaurants have partnered with Rolling Thunder to host give-back events Friday. Ten percent of the day’s sales (dine-in, carryout and bar sales) will be donated to the POW/MIA advocacy group.

› O’Charley’s: Free $9.99er meal. A portion of sales from each 22-ounce draft beer will be donated to the Folded Flag Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants to spouses and children of U.S. military and government personnel who died in the line of duty. › Old Chicago Pizza & Tap

› Red Robin: Free Red’s Tavern Double burger and Bottomless Fries. Also donating $10,000 to USO.

› Ruby Tuesday: Free appetizer valued up to $10.

› Shoney’s: Free All-American Burger. The rest of the year, Shoney’s gives 15 percent discount to armed forces and first responders.

› Sizzler: Free meal and beverage until 4 p.m.

› Texas Roadhouse: Free lunch, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. from among 10 entrees, two sides and drink. Order gift cards at texasroadhouse.com and 10 percent of the card value will be donated to Homes For Our Troops to provide specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans. STORES & SERVICES

› American Family Care: Free flu shot to any veteran.

› Dollar General: 11 percent Veterans Day discount to veterans, active military members and their families in store or online.

› Great Clips: Free haircuts. Don’t need a trim that day? Get a haircut card to redeem before the end of the year. Anyone else who gets a haircut can get a free haircut to give to a veteran.

› JCPenney: 5 percent discount, Nov. 10-13. May be combined with other offers. › Jo Ann Fabric and Craft

Stores: Past and present military members and their dependents get 10 percent off their purchase every day.

› Lowe’s: 10 percent military discount for current, retired and VA members. Also applies to immediate family.

› National parks: Free entrance on Friday, including Point Park on Lookout Mountain.

› Publix: 10 percent off items purchased on Veterans Day for active and retired military and their fmily members. Some exclusions, including prescriptions, alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, lottery tickets, money services and postage stamps

› Rack Room Shoes: 10 percent discount for military personnel and dependents with valid military ID, any Tuesday plus Veterans Day.

› Sports Clips: Free haircuts. Sports Clips also will donate $1 from every haircut to the Help a Hero Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships for service members and veterans to use at post-secondary schools and trade schools.

› Walgreens: With a Balance Reward card and proof of service, military members and veterans get 20 percent discount on Nov. 11. Some exclusions.

FREE CAR WASHES

Nonprofit organization Grace for Vets has coordinated with several hundred independent car wash operators to offer veterans a free car wash on Nov. 11.
